SUGGESTED PATHWAYS OF SCIENCE CLASSES

There is no set sequence of classes in the Science Department, but certain courses are more challenging than others and certain courses have prerequisites.  The Science Department suggests that students follow one of the four pathways shown below.  The pathways are arranged from the most challenging (University Preparatory 1/UC Pathway) to the least challenging (High School Graduation).  The Arcata High School graduation requirement is one year of Life Science and one year of Physical Science. Please reference page 8 for AHS Graduation/UC-CSU Entrance Requirements.

SCIENCE HONORS CLASSES

An Honors option is offered with three science courses at Arcata High School: Chemistry, Human Anatomy/Physiology and Advanced Agriculture. Interested students must apply to the Science Honors program with the teacher and complete the requirements.  Honor students receive an extra grade point on their transcript.

NOTEAP Biology and AP Physics will both be offered; however, if there are not enough sign-ups in both courses, only one will be offered.  In this case, in school years starting on an even year AP Physics will be guaranteed and in school years starting on an odd year AP Biology will be guaranteed.
