Bio… I have been teaching English at Arcata High School for 26 years. I have been the caretaker of The Muse (AHS literary and art website), an adult mentor for the Sources of Strength (suicide prevention) program, and am the current English Department Chair. I am a graduate of Humboldt State University where I earned an English degree, teaching credential, and a supplementary authorization in art. I write and recite poetry on a semi-regular basis and enjoy teaching and learning from all the amazing students at AHS. It is my constant aspiration to nurture an active, vibrant community of learners who are aware and connected through writing, poetry, story, and art.

 

My Why...What I enjoy most about teaching language arts is the opportunity to learn about life, ourselves, and others through story, poetry, and thematic discussions. I am inspired by watching young people evolve as readers, writers, and thinkers--by hearing their truths, and those of others, that lead us to the recognition of universal meaning, connection, and purpose.
