I grew up in the small town of Three Rivers, CA, at the base of Sequoia National Park, spent a bit of time in Los Angeles, where I studied psychology and theatre at Occidental College, and settled in Arcata in 2002. I received my teaching credential in mathematics from HSU in 2004, and began teaching mathematics and drama that same year at Six Rivers Charter High School. I have taught many different subjects over the years, but my passion is in mathematics and performing arts. In 2012, I was lucky to join the faculty of Arcata High School, and the Arcata Arts Instititute as their theatre instructor. In 2014, I added instructional coaching to my repertoire, as I was hired to work for the Humboldt Interdisciplinary STEM Initiative (HISI), focusing on integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, (Arts) and Math. I added in the Arts to make it STEAM education, as I feel arts are a cohesive thread throughout all content. In 2019, I took on teaching Drama 1 for Arcata High. In addition to working within the educational fields of mathematics and the arts, I perform locally with theatre, dance, fire dance, and spoken word companies, integrating mathematics into my performance arts whenever possible.
