Mr. Richards Core Support

Hi Everyone,

 

I am Thomas Richards and this is my third year teaching Core Support at Arcata High School. I grew up in McKinleyville and within this high school district. My parents both worked for NHUHSD for more than 30 years. I graduated from the University of Oregon Lundquist College of Business in 2012. After working in the business sector for seven years, I decided to attend Humboldt State to get my teaching credential. I taught at Eureka High from Fall 2019-Summer of 2021. My wife and I have a son named Jaxon who is almost four years old. I enjoy a number of outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, hunting, camping, golfing, gardening, taking care of our animals and spending as much time with my family as possible. 

 

Core Support is a place for students to feel comfortable and at home to complete assignments, quizzes, tests and get any extra help completing work. It is a small class setting of usually 14 or less, students get more help by either working in small groups or one-on-one with me. When we don't have a bunch of classwork to complete for our other classes, we will explore different topics that students don't usually get to learn about for life after high school. We complete multiple grade checks within Synergy and Google Classroom per week to track our progress and which assignments we need to work on. I enjoy getting to know each student and working on personal growth which will help them into the future.
