World Language

“In our World Language classes, our students learn to appreciate the world’s diversity as well as its fundamental oneness.  With this newly acquired broader perspective, our students are well on their way to becoming global citizens.” ~ From Rick Steves’ Travel as a Political Act

The Seal of Biliteracy is a distinguished accolade affixed to the diploma and transcript of graduating seniors, acknowledging their adeptness in two or more languages. This proficiency encompasses fluent speaking, reading, and writing abilities in multiple languages. To qualify for the seal, students must undergo an application process and successfully pass both written and oral assessments while taking a 4th year language course.

Is it possible to earn the Seal of Biliteracy without being enrolled in a language course? Absolutely. If you're not currently taking a language class, you can still pursue the Seal of Biliteracy. Here's how: During the first semester of your senior year, reach out to a language teacher to request taking the Heritage Speaker Exam. This exam is designed to assess your proficiency in reading and writing at a fourth-year level. After arranging to take the exam, you'll need to prepare for the written essay, scheduled for February, and the oral interview, which typically takes place in March. By successfully completing these steps, you can demonstrate your proficiency in the language and qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy.
