Course Expectations

Behavior Policy
● It is vital that everyone is respectful of each other’s opinions, backgrounds, beliefs, and world views. There
will be a lot of agreement and disagreement on topics. Listening is essential to communicating. Everyone is
to be valued and respected.
● This is an anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobic, multicultural class. We are against the use of words that
target students with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities.
● We are all equal as learners. Therefore, one person speaks at a time. You must raise your hand before
speaking, as to keep the conversation orderly. Everyone else respects that person through active listening.
● We will arrive to class on time. This means you will be in your seat with your materials out and prepared to
work when class begins.
● Everyone will actively participate in class activities, including discussions, asking and answering questions,
small group work, individual work, etc.
● All school rules apply - see school website for details

Attendance
You are expected to attend class. Students not present at the beginning of class will be given a tardy. Students
arriving to class more than 10 minutes late are marked as late. Students not in class will receive an absence that
a parent/guardian will need to clear with the office. Students with 20 unexcused absences per semester may be
given a failing grade and receive no credit for the class.

Makeup Work
When you return from an EXCUSED ABSENCE, it is your responsibility to ask for make-up assignments and
find out what you missed either before or after class. You have one day for each day absent to make-up missed
work (I do not accept late work for AP Classes outside of extenuating circumstances). After that, the assignment is late and you may receive up to ½ credit until the end of the term in which the assignment was given. If you miss a quiz or test, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to schedule a makeup time with me as soon as you return from an excused absence. If you do not make up the quiz or test within a week you will receive zero points on the examination. A student who is given an unexcused absence or a cut by the office will not be given the same opportunity to earn full credit outside of extenuating circumstances. Students who receive an unexcused absence or a cut during a quiz or test may receive a zero on the examination. If you know you are going to be absent ahead of time please let me know so we can create a plan.

Homework
Please submit your homework in the correct basket at the start of class. No homework may be worked on during
class on the day it is due and homework turned in after class has begun will be marked late. Copying homework
will result in an automatic zero and a referral for both the person copying and the person allowing the copying.

Academic Honesty
The Arcata High School’s Academic Honesty Contract states, “Plagiarism can be defined as using another
person’s ideas, words, images or data without providing the proper acknowledgment of the source through
quotations, references, or footnotes.” All work submitted by students is expected to be created by the student
submitting the work. Plagiarism is not accepted on any assignment, whether in part or whole. Any assignment
deemed to be plagiarized will be given a zero. Disciplinary actions may also be taken.
