MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT

MATH 1

9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th                                                                                 Year Course

This course re-emphasizes the mathematics students were exposed to in middle school.  The Course focuses on building prerequisite skills including fractions, percents, proportions, signed numbers, variable expressions, solutions of equations, basic geometry, linear equations and graphing.  Students do more individual work and may progress through the material at their own speed.  A majority of the work for this course is done in class.  A grade of C or better is required to move to the next course, Integrated Math 1.  Math 1 is not a college preparatory course.

*INTEGRATED MATH 1

9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades                                                                                Year Course

Prerequisite:  C or better in Math 1 or Teacher Recommendation

Integrated Math 1 formalizes the mathematics students learned in middle school.  Topics include:  algebraic manipulation, properties of functions, linear relationships, exponential relationships, mathematical modeling and geometric congruence. Homework is required daily.  A grade of C or better is required to take the next course, Integrated Math 2.

*INTEGRATED MATH 2

9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades                                                                                Year Course

Prerequisite:  C or better in Integrated Math 1 or Teacher Recommendation

This course is an extension of Integrated Math 1 with emphasis on the study of geometric concepts involving plane and solid figures and analytic geometry.  Topics include mathematical proofs, proportions, angle properties, and an introduction to trigonometry.  Students will advance their Algebra skills to include factoring and completing the square for quadratic functions and circles.   Homework is required daily.  Students will need a C or better to advance to Integrated Math 3, an A to move to Pre-Calculus Honors.

*INTEGRATED MATH 3

9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades                                                                                Year Course

This course explores the parent functions:  polynomials, rationals, exponentials, radicals, absolute values, logarithms, and trigonometric functions; their transformations and the Algebra needed to solve their equations for a given variable.  Students will continue to develop their knowledge of probability and statistics and expand their knowledge of trigonometry beyond right triangles.  Homework is required daily.  Students will need a B or better to move on to Pre-Calculus,  a C or better to take Math Analysis.

*PRE-CALCULUS HONORS

9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades                                                                             Year Course

Prerequisite: Grade of B or better in Integrated Math 3 or  A in Integrated Math 2 with Teacher Recommendation.

Part of the year is spent on a complete course in analytic trigonometry: the trigonometric functions and graphs, solving triangles, trigonometric identities and equations, circular functions, and inverse trigonometric functions. The advanced algebra portion includes analytic geometry, limits, continuity, area under a curve and other precalculus areas. A graphing calculator is required. Students will need a B or better in this class to enroll in AP Calculus the following year.

*MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS

10th, 11th, and 12th Grades                                                                                      Year Course

Prerequisite:  Grade of C or better in Integrated Math 3

Students enrolled in this class will further their knowledge of content introduced in Integrated Math 3 and be introduced to parametric and polar equations and proof writing.  Mathematical Analysis will allow them to continue their studies at a college prep level for their 3rd or 4th year of math.  It will help maintain their skills for both the High School Common Core 11th Grade exams and their college entrance exams.

*PRE-CALCULUS HONORS

9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades                                                                               Year Course

Prerequisite:  Grade of B or better in Integrated Math 3

Part of the year is spent on a complete course in analytic trigonometry:  the trigonometric functions and graphs, solving triangles, trigonometric identities and equations, circular functions, and inverse trigonometric functions. The advanced algebra portion includes analytic geometry, limits, continuity, area under a curve and other pre-calculus areas. A graphing calculator is required.  Extensive daily homework is required.

*CALCULUS ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) (AB)

9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades                                                                                Year Course

Prerequisite: Calculus AB, teacher recommendation.

Calculus BC is a full-year college-level course in the calculus of functions of a single variable. The course represents college-level mathematics for which most colleges grant advanced placement credit based on scoring of the AP Calculus BC exam. Content is designed to qualify the student for placement in courses beyond that granted for Calculus AB, typically equivalent to a second calculus course in college. Graphing calculators are required, and a minimum of five hours of preparatory summer work is required.

*CALCULUS ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) (BC)

9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades                                                                                Year Course

Prerequisite: Calculus (AB) and teacher recommendation.

Requires signed Advanced Placement Course Enrollment Parent Notification/Agreement

Calculus BC is a full-year college-level course in the calculus of functions of a single variable.  It includes all topics covered in Calculus AB plus additional topics.  Both courses represent college-level mathematics for which most colleges grant advanced placement and credit.  The content of Calculus BC is designed to qualify the student for placement and credit in a course that is one course beyond that granted for Calculus AB.  Graphing Calculators are required.  A minimum of five hours of preparatory summer work is required.

*STATISTICS, ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP)

9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades                                                                                Year Course Prerequisite:  Integrated Math 3 with a B or Better and teacher recommendation.

Requires signed Advanced Placement Course enrollment Parent Notification/Agreement

Course is intended for students who have a thorough knowledge of college preparatory mathematics, including algebra, and geometry.  This course includes major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data using probability and statistical inference.  TI-83 plus calculators are required. Extensive daily homework and a   minimum of 5 hours of preparatory summer work.
