FROSH PHYSICAL EDUCATION – COURSE ONE

9th Grade – Fulfills Graduation Requirement                                                Year Course

Physical Education standards will be addressed.  Students will demonstrate knowledge of and competency in motor skills, movement patterns and strategies needed to participate in a variety of activities.  Students will work towards a level of fitness for health and performance while demonstrating knowledge of fitness concepts, principles, and strategies. Students will demonstrate knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity.  In addition, students will work towards meeting the healthy fitness zone standards as set by the Fitnessgram.

 

CO-EDUCATIONAL PHYSICAL EDUCATION – COURSE TWO   

10th, 11th, and 12th Grades                                                                         Year Course

The Co-Educational Physical Education classes will provide students with the opportunity to explore a variety of physical activities in search of one they can enjoy and participate in for a lifetime.  These activities include but are not limited to: archery, badminton, basketball, conditioning, soccer, softball, tennis, ultimate Frisbee, yoga, pickle ball, ping pong, hockey, bocce ball, croquet, Fleetball and Speedball.

 

HEALTH

9th Grade - Required                                                                          Semester Course

Health will focus on essential concepts, analyzing influences, assessing valid information, interpersonal communication, decision making, goal setting, and practicing health enhancing behaviors, and health promotion as it relates to the following topics:  Health & Wellness, Nutrition & Fitness, Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs, Diseases & Disorders, Sexual Health including HIV and AIDS, Self-esteem, Mental Health and Life Skills.

 

Physical Education may be waived under the following condition:

Completion of two seasons of any sport in the N.H.U.H.S.D. Interscholastic Athletic Program during their sophomore, junior, and senior year waives one semester of the second year Physical Education requirement.  Students must file a completed waiver form with their counselor which includes sport, year and signature of the Athletic Director.

Additional Information: No grade or credit will be given for athletics; record will show completion of Physical Education requirement only.
